The Arc of Schuyler Celebrates Successful 4th Year of The Arc Grand Prix Run at Watkins Glen International Featured

RedJacket1The Arc Grand Prix Run welcomed nearly 800 runners, walkers, volunteers and spectators at Watkins Glen International on Saturday, April 8 during WGI Opening Weekend. This was the fourth year for the event, a fundraiser for The Arc of Schuyler, a not-for-profit organization based in Watkins Glen that provides a range of supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism.

Runners and walkers took on a challenging 3.4 mile road course while others enjoyed a one-mile walk on the track. In spite of cold temperatures and gusting wind on a challenging course, the first runners began crossing the finish line in just over 17 minutes.
Timothy Stahlnecker, 28 of Waterloo, NY defended his 2016 title by placing first overall with a time of 17:49.38. Stahlnecker finished almost two minutes faster than his time last year.

“Out of the twenty races I do in a year, this is easily my favorite. I’ll be back next year to hopefully make it three years in a row taking first place,” Stahlnecker said.

Sona Dobroxlova, 18, of Penn Yan, NY was the first female finisher with a time of 22:56.54. Second place finisher was John Copp, of Minoa, NY with a time of 18:18.84 and Casey Swartz, of Horseheads took third with a time of 18:32.55. Awards were presented to the top three male and female finishers in sixteen age categories. The event was timed by Auyer Race Timing.

“We couldn’t make this event happen without the team at Watkins Glen International, incredible volunteers, and the support of many generous sponsors. Our thanks to a very supportive community,” The Arc’s Director of Community Relations, Holly Baker said. “We’ll continue to grow the event and look forward to next year.”

Grist Iron Brewing Company hosted a well-attended race after party with live music by Pat Comstock. Grist Iron contributed toward the fundraiser with a donation to The Arc of Schuyler as a well as a generous prize raffle package of a one night stay at the Inn at Grist Iron and a gift certificate to the restaurant and brewery.

Title sponsor, Watkins Glen International provided the facilities and security for the event. Chemung Canal Trust Company, Snap Fitness, Cargill, Relph Benefit Advisors, The Colonial Pottery & Creamery, Corning Enterprises, Southern Tier Running Club, and Visions Federal Credit Union were listed as top supporters along with t-shirt and in-kind sponsors that can be found on the race website.
