Franklin Street Gallery will host an open reception on July 6, 5:00 – 8:00 PM for its July Artist in Focus exhibit in memory of K. Coralee Burch, award winning artist, author, and doctorate of philosophy. Burch passed away June 12, 2018 at her home on Keuka Lake.
Katherine Coralee Burch was born in 1943 in Elmira, NY. She studied under many influential European artists and sculptors at the Art Institute in Florence, Italy, Florence Academy of Fine Art, and European University Institute. Burch’s collection of work includes watercolors and oils paintings, which are recognized around the world in Italy, England, Germany, and other countries.
In addition to her art, Burch is also a celebrated author, having self-published three books, one of which chronicles the life of Ernie Davis, Elmira native and the first African American to win the Heisman trophy. Burch also owned and operated for many years the now closed Cascata Winery and Professors Inn in Watkins Glen. She was a frequent volunteer and long-time exhibiting artist at Franklin Street Gallery.
Burch’s family noted that along with her artistic and academic achievements, she will be remembered for her empathy toward others and her sense of adventure.
